Angel and Cherub Tattoos
Angel tattoos are typical of women, but men often have them as well. The most popularity gained those depicting cherubs and avenging angels.
The word angel derives from a Greek Angeloi, which means “messenger.” Therefore angels are God’s agents. There’s a belief that everyone has their own guardian angel that protects them from evil and helps them follow the way of salvation. They are the defenders of people’s souls.
Cherubs are angels that guard Eden and Divine Glory; they personify all the good in people’s life: the birth of a child, morning fresh, sunrise, peace, first appearance of spring flowers, the smell of melting snow and natural harmony.
Their image was changing throughout the time. According to Church, angels and cherubs are sexless invisible spirits immortal from the day of their creation.
Painters portrayed them as charming creatures looking like people with shining wings and nimbuses over their heads, dressed in white clothes and flying in the sky. Angels and seraphims are depicted as women, cherubs – as men or children.
Usually angel and cherub tattoo are placed on a man’s forearm or breast and on a woman’s shoulder or belly. But sometimes you can see angels on wrists and even on feet!
You can as well come across a tattoo in the form of angel wings, usually black. It’s done on the back and looks very impressive.
Angel and cherub tattoos are so popular because they mean defense. Some people have a tattoo done with their family or a personal angel to keep him closer.
