But there are other reasons for tattooing frogs besides aesthetic. Frogs also have various meanings to the mankind. In the ancient times a frog was depicted as the Mother of our Universe that held our world, many Egyptian gods were depicted having a human body and the head of a frog. One Egyptian goddess, who had a head of a frog, was Heketh – the goddess of birth, fertility, immortality and resurrection. Such associations came from the frog’s life circle – from spawn to tad poles, and to a mature frog later. Frogs also tend to appear at a certain time of the year, and in Egypt in happened right before the flood of the Nile which meant the beginning of a new planting and harvesting season and the end of the draught. |
